Moms didn’t ask to be the household manager, yet many find themselves coming home from work to a team that struggles to help. Other handbooks put the onus on mom to figure out how to motivate the team, but what if dad and the kids got together and figured it out for themselves? What would it be like to no longer have to ask for things to happen, but they happened because that’s just the standard – clear counters, floors, and a clutter-free environment? In Without Being Asked: How Can Dads and Kids Help Around the House to Reduce Burnout?, a pharmacist dad and his triplet eight-year-old daughters work to find their own decluttering way. After a few weeks of missteps, the house now remains consistently clutter free. Progress continues on new organizing projects and the general level of stress and anxiety that comes with a multiple-kid household is much lower.Imagine after a long day at work, having a completely uncluttered walk from the entrance of the house to the bedroom. The kitchen countertops and floors are clear of clutter, the kids’ coats and shoes are on hangers and in cubbies, and the laundry baskets stand empty. You ask your kids why their hair is wet; they say, “Dad gave us baths.” Then, when you ask about dinner and homework, they say, “Maybe you need to relax in the bath, Mom, we already finished it. By the way, Dad left some food for you in the fridge.” ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Tony Guerra. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/187936/bk_acx0_187936_sample.mp3. Sheridan couldn't sleep. It wasn't that Manhattan was wide awake, despite the questionable hour. It might have been the cup of coffee she'd had around eight that evening, but she'd compensated by swallowing a sleeping pill - and still nothing. She stared at the ceiling as she lay in bed, arms at her sides. It wasn't the coffee, either, she knew. She could feel them tingling along her skin, humming in her bones like a warning. Her stupid nerves again. Maybe she was paranoid, as her mother always suggested. But that's why she was here, wasn't it? To take some time to get her head on straight. She huffed out a breath and threw her sheets aside. Tea. She needed tea. Tea would make everything better, help her sleep. Her heart pounded as she filled the kettle with water. "Idiot," she muttered to herself-a nervous habit. "Your first night here and you're already panicking." She set the kettle on the stove, turned on the burner. It was a nice place, she thought, looking around. The swanky apartment on the Upper West Side her parents often escaped to. Big, white kitchen with black countertops, floor-to-ceiling windows in the open living space, terrace doors leading to a large balcony. Her mother's simple yet elegant style was evident in the grey sofa, patterned chairs, and colorful throw pillows. Caught up in the details of the rooms, she jumped when the kettle began to whistle. Her heart thudded all over again. She tried to steady her hand as she turned off the burner, lifted the kettle away. But it still shook as she reached for a mug, poured hot water over the strainer. Something was...off. As she thought it, she heard the unmistakable sound of a gunshot. Jolting, she dropped the kettle onto the counter with a clang, jumping again to avoid getting splattered by hot water. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Teresa-May Whittaker. Imagine a manageable housekeeping routine that is stress free. Imagine coming home after a long day at work to a neat, orderly, and clear home. Sounds impossible? Then maybe it's time to organize and declutter the minimalist way. If clutter could talk, it would be an annoying and nagging boss that would always tell you to pick it up, clean it up, organize it, or store it. Start having more control over your stuff and not the other way around. Be the boss, and don't let the clutter boss you around. The greatest benefit of having less clutter in our home, I must say, is that cleaning has become so much easier. Before I started the decluttering project, it was always so daunting to dust the shelves, especially the top, because I had to go through a lot of knickknacks. There are arrays of loose magazines and stacks of everything else in one corner that I never had the chance to tuck away. When I successfully finished reorganizing the house, it took so much less time to put all the clutter away and clean, since there are fewer things in the way. With less clutter, the house now seemed to become homier, more calm, relaxing, neat, clean, and spacious. You will also find this true once you start decluttering your own home. Try it with a simple experiment with two countertops. Reorganize, declutter, and remove unnecessary items from one, and leave the other one as it is. Take a look at both counters. I am certain that the clear countertop will have a calming effect while the cluttered one will certainly give you feelings of anxiety and distraction. Now amplify your response through your house. A decluttered home with fewer things is blissfully less stressful and less of an eyesore. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Gretchen Wylder.
