The Articles of Faith , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 853min
The lectures herewith presented have been prepared in accordance with the request and appointment of the First Presidency of the Church. The greater number of the addresses were delivered before the Theology Class of the Church University; and, after the close of the class sessions, the lectures were continued before other Church organizations engaged in the study of theology. To meet the desire expressed by the Church authorities - that the lectures be published for use in the various educational institutions of the Church - the matter has been revised, and is now presented in this form. In anticipation of probable question or criticism regarding the disparity of length of the several lectures, it may be stated that each of the addresses occupied two or more class sessions, and that the present arrangement of the matter in separate lectures is rather one of compilation than of original presentation. ungekürzt. Letter to James C. Conkling , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 11min
During the Civil War, Union supporters in President Abraham Lincoln's hometown of Springfield, Illinois, asked him to speak at a rally on September 3, 1863. Lincoln could not attend but wrote this letter to be read at the gathering by his long-time friend, James C. Conkling. The letter was accompanied by a brief note that read, "I cannot leave here now. Herewith is a letter instead. You are one of the best public readers. I have but one suggestion. Read it very slowly. And now God bless you, and all good Union-men." Shortly after the rally, John Murray Forbes wrote to Lincoln, referring to the letter and the Emancipation Proclamation issued on January 1, 1863. Forbes declared that the letter "will live in history side by side with your proclamation." He noted, "It meets the fears of the timid and the doubts of the reformer. It proves that the Proclamation and the policy resulting from it are the most conservative, both of liberty and of our form of government." ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Barrett Whitener. Greatest Inventions in History , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 39min
The history of inventions is in one way the history of civilization as well. This is because inventions are the only means through which mankind has pushed itself forward and is still keeping itself in momentum as years pass, keeping up with the process of evolution. Yes, the process of evolution indeed reinforces the human activity of creating inventions. Be it the importance of a wheel, a telephone, or an aircraft, every single invention that has been included in this text has given new insights into the life humans have lived so far, and to a considerable extent, shaped their lives as well. This is considering that there have been thousands of inventions in the past that have contributed to the history of civilization in some form or the other. Indeed, when it comes to inventions, a compilation on some of the most prominent things ever invented becomes an interesting narrative, since it provides an explanation of where humans are presently located and perhaps, where they could be headed. It also does however, bring out the efforts made by certain individuals. Some of these inventions have unknown inventors, for example, the wheel. Nobody knows who or when the wheel was invented, although much has become known of its exact dating. This single invention that changed the course of human history sadly does not know its own inventor. Finally, the conclusion to the preface follows with an introductory chapter on the book and the inventions presented in the text herewith. The text has been presented with 10 of the greatest inventions of human history, starting in chronological order - from the oldest to the most recent. A final conclusion note gives the finishing touch. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Andrea Giordani. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/076211/bk_acx0_076211_sample.mp3. Here are 12 episodes of the adventures of an English journalist in the American West of the 1870s in this show from the golden age of radio. Frontier Gentleman was a radio western series aimed at adults that aired on CBS radio for one season in 1958. It starred radio veteran John Dehner as J. B. Kendall, a reporter for the London Times.
