The Democratic National Convention: The History of the Democratic Party’s Presidential Candidates and Platforms , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 150min
As the oldest political party in the United States, the Democratic Party has been one of the nation’s major political parties for over 150 years, and diverse men and ideas have fallen under its tent since the 19th century. Today the Democrats are generally viewed as proponents of a strong, centralized federal government, and yet the forerunner of the modern party was none other than Thomas Jefferson, the man most associated with states’ rights and limited government. With its Jeffersonian background, the party championed farmers, and Andrew Jackson’s populist era made the Party home to urban workers and new immigrants. Eventually sectional splits weakened the Democrats, and when the fledgling Republican Party took power under Abraham Lincoln in 1861, it ushered in an era in which the Democrats only elected two presidents over a 70-year span. However, Reconstruction ensured that the Democrats maintained an almost unbreakable level of support in the old Confederate states, and they used the Solid South to wield power in Congress for decades. One hundred and fifty years after the Civil War, the Democratic Party’s current voting bloc (strongly reliant on minorities) and their base of power (the Northeast and Midwest) are completely different than the 19th century’s incarnation. Its platform has also been completely revamped. Both of those reversals are byproducts of Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal and Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society, which continue to be the pillars on which the Democrats’ current platform rests. As the 20th century progressed, so did the Democratic Party, and by 1932, it had switched places with the Republicans and had become the party of liberal politics, beginning with the four term tenure of Franklin Roosevelt and continuing through the Great Society promulgated by Lyndon Johnson. And yet, it left many of the people who should have supported it dissatisfied, as could be seen in the rioting and unrest that surrounded both the ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Clem. Bharatiya Janta Party: Past, Present and Future: Story of the World’s Largest Political Party , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 887min
On 29th March, 2015, at BJP’s old office at 11, Ashoka Road, a digital counter was ticking. Party workers, office bearers and even staff, all were staring at the digital screen. The screen was showing the total number of party members enrolled through the party’s new ‘Sadasyata Abhiyan’ (Membership Drive). The party’s national president, Amit Shah, was in office that day. With a childlike eagerness in his eyes, he too was looking at the digital counter. As soon as the counter hit the target, the whole office erupted in euphoria. It reached 8.8 crore members, surpassing the Communist Party of China. The ambitious membership drive was Shah's idea. Next day every leading newspaper reported it bold and clear - BJP became the largest political party in the world. How did this happen? Was it merely a numerical exercise which boosted Bharatiya Janata Party’s fortunes or was it the case of an idea whose time had come? From a mere two seats in the Lok Sabha in 1984 to now having decimated the opposition, can this juggernaut be attributed to only the Modi-Shah duo or do the reasons run deep into the complexity of the highly misunderstood Hindutva movement? To answer these questions, Shantanu Gupta travels back into the history of the Right-wing movements in India, from their ideological origins to the evolution of their nationalist idea, bringing together a comprehensive study of not just BJP as a political party but of an ideological entity which defines the nationalist movement in the country like never before.PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio. ungekürzt. Red Wave Imperative: The Case for America to Vote, "Right" , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 385min
American voters took back their country in 2016...electing Donald J. Trump president and disrupting the New Democratic Party’s corruption, disrespect for our laws and borders, and neosocialism. During Trump’s last two-year march forward, every indicator signals that voters made the right choice, and he is returning America’s prosperity, safety, and greatness. The New Democrats have now embraced the use of the German Socialist Party’s 1930s strategy of misinformation, disregarding facts, and big lies to portray Conservative individuals and groups as dangerous and even subhuman. This strategy that was promoted in the infamous political manifesto Mein Kampf suggests if you repeat untruth often enough, from as many sources as possible, it will be believed and will create deep feelings of hatred and discontent. To accomplish this goal, the New Democrats promote the most negative interpretation of every event and completely ignore Trump’s positive statistical data...on trade, border security, economic growth, unemployment, military capability, global respect, and collaboration.... Statistics don’t lie. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Russell Newton. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/129534/bk_acx0_129534_sample.mp3. The Grand Old Party: The History of the Republican Party , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 151min
2016 has been one of the most unusual election years, and nothing represents the unprecedented nature more than the race for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination, which featured more than 15 candidates. As with most years, several candidates with various political experience - from former and current governors to Congressmen and Senators - ran, but the race also featured a number of political novices, one of whom became the party’s nominee. In a sense, all of that is fitting given the winding nature of the Republican Party’s history. Now dominant in the American South, the party was anathema in the South for more than a century. Likewise, if someone asked a man on the street in the early 1900s to describe the Republican Party, he might point to Teddy Roosevelt’s efforts on behalf of progressive politics and conservation, whereas a few years later, the Party was known as a protector of big business, and later law and order. During the Reagan Era, the words “small government” came to characterize the party, even as its leaders took one hit after another for wanting to limit social spending. Republicans were in office at the start of the Depression and the end of the Vietnam War. Ultimately, the direction that the Republican Party has taken at any given time has been determined, for the most part, by the party leadership, which has traditionally made its voice most heard at the Republican National Convention, which convenes once every four years to nominate candidates for the presidency and vice-presidency. During its more than 150 years of existence, it has nominated saints and scoundrels, and seen some men make it to the White House and others not. Its first successful candidate was assassinated, as was one of his successors a few decades later. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Clem.
